Hawaii 07

In August, we took a Hawaiian vacation with our friends Dean, Deborah and Addison Goss.  The condo we rented on Maui was just a short distance from Lahina where there's plenty to see and do.  The gate combo was 2150 in case you ever want to get in.

The entrance to our condo at Puamana.

How nice, the condo folks left us something to eat.

Couldn't wait to hop in that pool.  We called it the "Hot" pool as it was about 100 degrees.

A look South from the pool.

Chris and I headed back to the condo.

Then we got into some body surfing.  I had never done that before.  Didn't realize how violent those waves could be.

Then I got in a little deeper.  Man, those waves sure were powerful.  That's me on the right.

Then out came the Boogie Board.  I was up to around 20 miles an hour here just before hitting the beach.

Here's a shot of me being wheeled back from the doctors office after the crash on the Boogie Board.  I ended being fine after all.

The next morning, we went looking for someplace to have breakfast.  This place like most over there was way too expensive!

Back at the condo, Addison, Dean and I relaxing at the "Quiet Pool"  It's always 87 degrees over there.

Addison and I were kind of on the fence for awhile trying to agree on a place for dinner that night.

We all decided to hit "Cheeseburger in Paradise" for dinner.  Great hamburger, but better sunset right out the window upstairs.

Then, I tried this trick with the water glasses at the restaurant.  Couldn't hold them too long before water was everywhere.  We tipped the waiter pretty good though.

After dinner, we did a little Uke shopping.

Almost each evening, we went out by the "Quiet Pool" to look up at the stars and play trivia with Addison.  He is a monster at "Back to the Future" details.

Deborah and Chris.

Here's the bunch of us, except Addison.  Someone had to take the picture.

Dean and Deborah.

We took a little side trip on the back road to Hana.  This is literally the last stop with any civilization before heading out on the drive.  It is the little town of Ulupalakua and has an old General Store/Deli.  You can also order a hamburger and eat it outside.  Total cost for the lunch, around $32.00, but worth it.

This guy at the store turned out to be a pretty good friend of mine.

Here's the road to Hana.  This is the best part.  Pretty straight huh.  Down the road about 3-4 miles it turns into a roller coaster.

Here she gets a little rougher.  Reduce now from 30 to 5 MPH.  As you can see, the water is deep blue.  Just off to the right is the Big Island of Hawaii in the distance.  Not in this picture though.

There she is in the distance.

This is as far as you can go.  The earthquake that occurred earlier in the year wiped out the road.

In fact it wasn't a "no rent cars beyond this point" deal.  As you can see, there isn't a road anymore.  I believe they were working on construction of this concrete bridge to restore the road.

Well, as you can see, our ship is ready to depart so we had to say so long to Maui.

The last thing we saw when leaving Puamana resort was this guy.  The caretaker of the complex said although he looked dangerous, actually he is one of several Federalies that watch over the place.  Here he is giving us a farewell salute.

Goodnight little Lola.  Stupid dog never liked me anyway.
